Hi! So I recently discovered Goodreads Monday and I decided to try it! Goodreads Monday is a weekly meme hosted by Lauren’s Page Turners. To take part, you pick a random book from your TBR (To be read book list) and discuss why you want to read it. Thank you to Madeline for inspiring me to try this.
Today’s pick is…
Raybearer by Jordan Ifunko
Nothing is more important than loyalty.
But what if you’ve sworn to protect the one you were born to destroy?
Tarisai has always longed for the warmth of a family. She was raised in isolation by a mysterious, often absent mother known only as The Lady. The Lady sends her to the capital of the global empire of Aritsar to compete with other children to be chosen as one of the Crown Prince’s Council of 11. If she’s picked, she’ll be joined with the other Council members through the Ray, a bond deeper than blood. That closeness is irresistible to Tarisai, who has always wanted to belong somewhere. But The Lady has other ideas, including a magical wish that Tarisai is compelled to obey: Kill the Crown Prince once she gains his trust. Tarisai won’t stand by and become someone’s pawn—but is she strong enough to choose a different path for herself?
So Why Do I Want To Read This?
I’ve heard so much about it! On Goodreads and other blogs, everyone says it’s amazing. I also found out a sequel is coming soon too! The blurb itself makes me want to read it. I also have a birthday coming up on the 27th that I’ve mentioned way to many times (Hint, hint, Mom, Dad, friends).
It also sounds like this book has very strong friendship themes, which is something I really love in books.
The worldbuilding also sounds like it’s brilliant, and I’ve heard that the characters are amazing. Another thing that sounds like a winner is that the complicated relationship between the main character and her mother. It seems like the relationship will be really interesting to read about. And there’s magic! Magic! I really enjoy fantasy books so yay. Also royalty. I also enjoy books with kings and queens. So another yay. This definitely sounds like a winner to me!
And the cover is really pretty.
Have you read this book? Is it on your TBR?
